Our Minister

Our minister, the Rev. Dr Julia Pizzuto-Pomaco, came to Peterhead New Parish Church in September of 2021.

Julia holds a PhD in New Testament (St Andrews), and two Masters degrees (Divinity from Eastern Seminary, and Social Work from Temple University both in Philadelphia). Following ministerial training, she was ordained a minister in 1999 in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and has served several congregations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Julia and her late husband Joe have strong ties to Scotland. The couple served in Fife for a year as full time volunteers with Scripture Union. In the succeeding years, they (and eventually their children) returned for several summers to help with SU holiday clubs in Elie, Dunfermline, Arran, and Eyemouth.  Julia has four children, three of whom are students at the University of Aberdeen.

While pursuing her doctorate in the early 2000s, Julia served as assistant minister at Hope Park Church in St Andrews. In the year since coming to Scotland permanently, Julia was attached to South Holburn Parish Church in Aberdeen.

Julia has had a robust academic ministry as well. She has taught at several American universities and presented at conferences.  Julia is the author of the book 'From Shame to Honor - Mediterranean Women in Romans 16'.

Julia's true passion is sharing the love of Jesus with others. In particular, she loves reaching out to people on the margins of society by bringing worship to people in homeless shelters, assisted living centers and group homes. Julia endeavors to be a voice of truth for social justice and the hurting in our society.

Julia loves to meet up with folks over coffee for a good chat. Feel free to email her to set up a time to meet:
